A Message From the Dean

In the fall of 2013, MCNY's Master of Public Administration (MPA) program will celebrate its 25th year of educating the public and not-for-profit sector's future leaders. The inaugural class, which entered in 1988, included eight students, of which only two graduated. In contrast, today's class includes over 150 full-time degree candidates. This expansion and stability testify to the program's reputation in the public and not-for-profit sectors, the quality of its curriculum, and the experience, expertise and dedication of its faculty.

Over the next 25 years, I look forward to seeing the program cement its academic gains, further strengthen its curriculum and expand its service to the citizens of New York City. As a prospective student, this is a legacy and tradition of which you can become a part. The MPA program will challenge you to be a problem solver, policy analyst, and an engaged citizen of New York City's dynamic metropolitan area.

The program will challenge you academically. You will be required to write a thesis, called the "Constructive Action", that will identify a real need or opportunity in your organization and, through scholarly research, propose a meaningful intervention. This intervention will have to have the potential to improve the lives of the citizens that you and your organization serve. This is the foundation of our academic model.

I stand ready to assist you as you consider the features and benefits of MCNY's MPA program. Please contact me with any questions that you may have.

Humphrey Crookendale, Dean
