The MPA in Emergency and Disaster Management

About this Program

The Masters of Public Administration in Emergency and Disaster Management provides a unique opportunity to develop the skills required to be a professional in the field of Emergency Management. The degree program is an advanced, highly specialized program which opens new doors for recent graduates and greatly enhances the knowledge base of those already working in the highly competitive field.

Emergency and disaster management is a dynamic and complex field that requires a wide breadth of knowledge and expertise in multiple areas. Our program takes a comprehensive approach and covers a wide range of topics including planning, management, logistics and supply chain, response, relief, recovery, and the economics of disasters, partnering theoretical classroom learning with hands-on experience in many areas.

The Emergency and Disaster Management Master's Program is a 16-month program requiring successful completion of 45 credits over four consecutive semesters of study. Understanding that we can always learn from our global partners, there is an off-site study component of the program which consists of a 7- to 10-day excursion for those students who qualify.

To accommodate working professionals, classes meet on Friday evenings and Saturdays, with breaks between semesters.

Owing to MCNY's Purpose-Centered system of education, our program allows students the incomparable opportunity to work alongside leaders in the field to develop emergency management plans and projects with real agencies and organizations. This is accomplished as a group project in which the professor acts as the project manager and students are given valuable assignments to complete in a professional manner for their client.
