About this Program
This unique, three-semester-long MPA can be completed in one year. The program of study and practice has been designed specifically for working professionals with some related experience in a public agency, not-for-profit or profit making setting and provides the student with the skills necessary to enhance the organization's efficiency through applied learning. Each semester is 15 weeks long, and concentrates on an area essential to building leadership careers in public service.
Course Offerings
The three Purposes of the MPA are inter-related and lead to the completion of a Constructive Action (typically a thesis in more theoretical programs). An extensive research component is integrated into each semester's requirements. Graduate students are awarded the MPA upon the successful completion of 45 credits (15 credits per semester) and a grade point average of a 3.0.
Meet the Faculty
Here are some of the full-time and adjunct professors (who are all practitioners in their fields). Ours is a highly committed group who not only impart knowledge, but encourage and nurture students to excel.
Letter from the Dean
Meet Dean Humphrey Crookendale. He sets the course for the program and works with the faculty and administration to deliver an exceptional learning experience to every student.
Constructive Action
The Constructive Action is the heart of MCNY's Purpose-Centered Education. Each semester students produce a Constructive Action (CA) paper that not only demonstrates mastery of the semester's Purpose, but also seeks to improve or address a specific situation at the work or internship site.
Metropolitan Institute
The Metropolitan Institute, formerly the Urban Institute, was founded in 2000 for the purpose of facilitating dialogue, research and assessment in regards to issues surrounding urban policy, particularly those in underserved areas.
