Cynthia Toye Makes a DifferenceSkills learned in MPA studies help Cynthia Toye to help even more people.
RealPlayer required to view video Produced by: Cynthia Toye's storyI was a grandmother when I decided to go back to school to get my master's degree. One hundred people told me I'd never do it. I only needed one person to tell me I would...and that person was me. I came to Metropolitan College of New York because of their Human Services Degree Program. My classes were filled with people just like me. There were mothers, single dads, and other full-time working people. As a mature student, it was important for me to be near my family and my work. Since MCNY has several campuses in and around the New York City area, I was able to choose one that was convenient for me. I was also looking for a sense of community where I wasn't going to be just a number. Here, I'm anything but that. The professors are accessible and know that our schedules are just as busy as theirs. I wanted classes with other students my age, people serious about their studies. And finally, I wanted a program where I'd come away doing something I believe in. And now that I have a graduate master's degree in Public Administration, I'm working as a caseworker for a family services organization helping to prevent teenage pregnancy. I derive great satisfaction from my job. It's something most people only dream about. But I didn't want to dream anymore.
