Board Certified in Human Services

Opportunities to Become Board Certified in Human Services

Metropolitan College is dedicated to continuing support for its graduates. Towards that end, there is a unique and time-limited opportunity that has become available to graduates of the Human Services and Masters of Public Administration programs at Metropolitan College. The National Organization of Human Services is collaborating with the Center for Credentialing & Education to develop a system of Board Certification in Human Services. Board Certification will be the first nationally recognized credential in Human Services. Certified individuals will be entitled to include the certification initials HS-BCP following their degree designation. This is an opportunity for eligible individuals to bolster their resume and enhance their formal credentials.

Generally, to be eligible to stand for certification, you need a degree in Human Services or a Human Services related area and a minimum period of professional practice. We believe that because of the nature of MCNY's program, emphasizing Constructive Action in the workplace, all or almost all MCNY Human Services graduates at the associate, bachelor's and master's level have met the practice qualification.

Application to take the test and become board certified costs $195. The deadline to sign up is April 1st, 2010. Several thousand individuals nationally have already registered for the test. To download an application and view information on eligibility and registration for the test, please visit the website of the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) at

Every MCNY alumnus who is working in Human Services or a related area should consider this opportunity. First called the College for Human Services, then Audrey Cohen College, and now Metropolitan College has pioneered the field of Human Services and has been a leader in its development.

If you have questions on this opportunity, please contact Dr. Ruth Lugo, Dean of the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education ( or Dr. Clyde Griffin (, Chairperson of the MCNY Human Services program.
