Office of Financial Aid

Scholarships and Grants

MCNY has established funding under its aid program to help students finance their education. Scholarships are awarded to degree students based on need, merit, or a combination of the two. These funds do not require repayment and are primarily scholarships applied towards your tuition costs.

To be considered for institutional scholarships, undergraduate students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the stated deadline each year. Need-based scholarships may be reduced or canceled if all requested applications and verification documents are not received by the stated deadlines. Generally, verification documents must be completed and submitted to the Office of Student Financial Services within thirty days of the request.

All scholarship/award applicants must have an application on file; a FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid; be in good academic standing; not be in default on loans; and have all required documents for acceptance to MCNY.

For scholarships/awards to be applied to a student account the student must first use all eligible grants, such as PELL and TAP, to their account first.

International students on a visa will not be required to file a FAFSA for consideration.

Please use the chart below to determine which types of aid you may be eligible to apply for and the required application process, if any.

Financial Aid Appeal Process: Students whose families have experienced a change in their financial circumstances since they completed their financial aid application should complete the front and back pages of the Petition for Special Circumstances to help Student Financial Services determine whether additional financial assistance may be available. All petitions should be complete and submitted to the Office of Student Financial Services with all required documentation. All completed petitions will be reviewed in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policies. It is important to note that not all changes in financial circumstances will result in increased financial assistance.

Despite the availability of MCNY scholarship funding, it is highly recommended that all students pursue scholarship funding available from different agencies or organizations outside of the college.  While it is a student’s responsibility to find scholarships offered outside of the college, Student Financial Services offers tools to help in the search for scholarships.

You may check the Resources page for external scholarship information that may be relevant to you. The list is updated regularly as we become aware of new scholarship opportunities.

Keep in mind that the quest for external funding is time-consuming. The most important thing to remember about scholarship and fellowship searches is to start early, as application deadlines may be established several months to a year in advance of award disbursal.
