ResourcesMCNY's Emergency and Disaster Management The Director’s BioDavid Longshore is the Director of MCNY’s Emergency and Disaster Management MPA Program. Prior to this position, he served as Director of Special Programs at the New York City Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management (NYCOEM) between 2000 and 2004. He was among the first responders to the World Trade Center disaster on September 11, 2001, and played an integral role in coordinating the City’s response to numerous emergencies, including the crash of American Airlines Flight 587, the 2001 anthrax attack, and the 2003 Northeastern Blackout. The author of several books, plays, and short stories, including A Deadly Sign (1993), Crooked Titians (1995), the Encyclopedia of Hurricanes, Typhoons, and Cyclones (1998; 2nd Edition, 2000), and Hello, Lyndon (2002), Mr. Longshore holds a B.A. in History and English, summa cum laude, from Amherst College, and an M.A. in Security Studies (Homeland Security and Defense) from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
